An orphaned profile is one that no longer has any identifiers attached to it via Identity Lookup. This occurs through the use of Identify or Modify requests to our IDSync against a Unique ID. They can be confirmed through the use of our User Activity view when the MPID is known.
1. Search UAV by the MPID > profile 1 is returned with the Unique ID on the profile.
2. Search UAV by the Unique ID from step 1 > profile 2 is returned with the Unique ID on it.
In the above situation, profile 1 is orphaned as profile 2 has all the identity lookups based on the Unique ID.
Remember that our IDSync and the Profile Systems are two different systems. The IDSync accepts the User Identities and only returns MPIDs based on your ID Strategy. The Profile System only accepts an MPID and returns all available information that exists on a profile. More information can be found on how Identity Strategies work in our IDSync docs linked here. Additional information on Orphaned profiles can be found here.
